Master Your Blog Post Title and First Part of Content

In my experience as a blog reader (note: a reader not a blog owner), I look for certain post titles to read about. I also determine if I am going to read the full blog by reading the first couple of sentences on the blog. I feel that it is very important to have an eye catching, keyword rich title for a blog post and that the first few sentences are also rich.

The post’s title!

Think about it in the shoes of your readers! You are an internet user and you are trying to find information on how to train your dog how to sit. You do a search and find two blog post topics in the search results. One says “Train your dog how to sit” and the other one says “Here is how you can do it”. Which link are you going to click? Dah, right?! It is obvious that you will click the one that explains what you want to do in the title. So you need to make sure that your own blog post titles are relevant to the content within the blog. If you give the reader a title to what they are looking for, you will have a better chance of attracting them to your blog. If you use a generic blog post title, you will probably not get that many traffic sources to your blog. If you notice my titles, I always try to mention the keyword “blog” in them so that my audience knows that my blogs are specifically about blogging.

The first few sentences!

Another thing I do before reading a full blog post is read the first few sentences to find a summary of what I am about to read. If the first few sentences do not explain what the blog is about, I usually move on to another blog as I don’t want to waste my time reading something that might not help me. All blogs that I write have basically a summary of what the blog post is about in the first couple of sentences. I usually put the main topic of the blog in the first sentence and a problem or solution in the next sentence to sum everything up, then the rest of the content is the meaning to each sentence. So for example if you read a blog about teaching a dog how to sit, which of the following first few sentences do you think are a good match?

Welcome to my blog post about dogs. We really like to teach our dogs new tricks.

Sometimes it can be difficult teaching a dog how to sit. However, if you use the steps below, your dog will be sitting on command in no time.

Again, it’s obvious what your choice will probably be. You should now blog by that example in order to get more readers. It will also help with search engine ranking in terms of relevant content and other reasons. The search engine will index that very first few bits of content and it will show it in search engine results. The more relevant wording you use associated with the content of the blog, the better off it will display on search engines. It is a good habit to start!

Thank you for reading my post about that first content of a blog post and I hope you enjoyed it. Please share this blog post with other blog owners to help them out while also supporting me for writing these blogs. Feel free to comment on this post telling me what you thought of it and have a great day! :)
